Top 50 Rosters - 2/7

If you're trying to gain ground on teams ahead of you, it can help to know who's on their rosters. If your team looks too much like the other teams, then it will be tough to catch them. Similarly, if you're near the top, you may want to mimic your closest contenders to hedge your lead.

Ever wondered what the composite rosters of the top 50 worldwide teams looked like? Using the teams rankings as of 2/7, I counted the number of times each player appeared in a top 50 roster. Those tallies are shown below. I also segmented out the count for just the top 20 teams.

There aren't many surprises here, although there are a few things that I found interesting, both on an absolute basis, as well as in comparison with the previous analysis (1/18).

1) There are 44 different players on the top 50 teams, very comparable to the 43 from three weeks ago. The top 20 have only 34 (up from 32) different players.

2) Grant Hill has now supplanted David Robinson as the most commonly held player. Grant appears on 49 of the 50 rosters, including all of the top 20.

3) Five players have disappeared since the last list: Erick Dampier, Marcus Camby, Kevin Willis, Isaiah Rider, and Derek Anderson.

4) Donyell Marshall showed the largest decline, dropping from 26 rosters to only 12.

5) Charles Barkley and Kevin Garnett showed the largest increases, respectively showing up on 7 and 6 more rosters than before.

6) There are six new players on this list. Only two of these appear on more than one roster - Hakeem Olajuwan(4) and Penny Hardaway (3) - while the other four each appear only once.
